THE LOVE BETWEEN OTHERS,
IS IT LIKE OURS?
My whole life I have struggled to find comfort in stories that do not represent me. This is why representation has always been central to my practice. Common narratives are intrinsically transphobic and strive to uphold antiquated ideals of gender roles in our society. In this zine I explore themes of gender euphoria, emotional growth, found family, and accepting help, which are often left out of common narratives. Perpetuating isolation and sadness while ignoring positive perspectives of a vibrant community does not allow LGBT+ people to experience happiness, even in fiction. Showing positive exploration of identity along with character growth is what I want to see in media. It is significant to encourage positive representation in order to allow the viewer to celebrate their identity, not wallow in it.
The companion piece to the zine. Six screen printed patches depicting human connection. Each zine comes with one randomly selected patch, which combines to create a complete illustration. Connecting each person by holding a piece of the puzzle.
